Personalizing your Space

I read an article some time ago, I don't remember where now, about how to make your bedroom romantic and to keep it cozy, you should have touches of both of you. So I've been trying to find decor that represents Tomas along with decor that represents myself. Tomas has a slight obsession with boats of all types. In fact, a few weeks ago he walked in the door with a huge smile on his face all excited to show me what he had bought. He pulled out a decorative boat and a big chest with the map of a world on it. Much like these:

At first I cringed. How do these things go with Hydrangeas and the grey that I love so much? But after a few days I grew to love them. They actually go quite well with the look I want to create. They have a vintage feel. Plus, they so represent Tomas. Everytime I see them I think of him and smile. It wasn't until then that I understood how having pieces representing both of you in a room makes it so cozy, and romantic at the same time. Right now they are in our living room, but I'm thinking of using the boat in the bedroom for T's "piece".

Vibrate Love

So I stumbled upon The Lettered Cottage the other day. I was reading this post when I saw this picture:

Ever since I saw the Live What You Love art, I've developed a thing for "Quote Artwork" (for lack of a better term). I love the short and simple quotes that are so gosh-darn inspiring. I would love to wake up to this "Radiate Love" sign every morning. It would just make me smile.

Live What You Love

I stumbled upon this piece of art on Etsy.com. I absolutely love it. So simple. So inspiring. Ever since, I've been dreaming of doing it myself. I've been searching for letterpress blocks, but they are a bit pricey. So I'm still on the lookout for a deal.

Linen on Quilts

I'm in the process of decorating our bedroom. The whole house actually. But I'm focusing on the bedroom now.

There will be crisp, white linens with white pillows of different textures. I've already picked up this pillow from Target. I'm on the lookout for more.

Sometimes during lunch I go to Celadon just to walk around for inspiration. One of their display beds is covered in a white quilt with a white linen comforter folded at the bottom. I fell in love with the contrast of a linen on the quilted pattern. At first I was thinking white on white. But lately I've been leaning more towards a natural linen color to cozy up the room. I love this linen duvet cover.

Crisp, White Linens

Oh how I love the crisp white sheets, on the dark wooden bed. The different textured white pillows along with a splash of color of the throw blanket give the perfect touch.

With this grey headboard, I was trying to figure out why this stood out to me. Besides the crisp white bedding, it's the books that did me in. They feel so authentic, and cozy.

Vintage Hydrangeas

One of my side projects lately has been decorating the apartment. We moved back in August. I was decorating for a few weeks. One day I realized that in the past I've decorated right away, until I was able to call the place "complete". After that I don't do much with the place. But I see places and do things and always find myself thinking, "if only I could bring a piece of this home.. too bad the house is finished and there's no more room."

This time I wanted it to be different. I want to really personalize our apartment. It's still a rental so there's only so much we can do as far as house projects. But there's soo much I can do to decorate. So this is my ongoing "project" of bringing our apartment to life, room by room, piece by piece.. with no end in sight.
